Washington Commanders leader Dan Quinn has admitted he shares a portion of the blame for a major ailment to the squad’s quarterback, Jayden Daniels.
Details of the Injury and Situation
Daniels, who had one of the greatest rookie campaigns of all time last season, suffered a dislocated left elbow in the Sunday loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Even though the quarterback throws with his right arm, the injury has left his season uncertain. The injury was serious enough that the television broadcast avoided showing repeats and multiple players looked away as Daniels was treated by medical staff.
Backlash and Coach’s Response
Quinn faced criticism as numerous felt the rookie should not have been on the playing surface in the first place. The incident happened in the fourth quarter with the Washington trailing 38-7, rendering a recovery improbable. It is common in such circumstances for clubs to insert their reserve QB to prevent injuries to their first-string player.
“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it constantly, too, and, man, I erred,” he remarked of his choice to leave Daniels in the match. “That is 100% on me.”
Fallout and Team Prospects
Marcus Mariota will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback from now on, but he will guide a roster in disarray. Following making the NFC championship game the prior year behind the rookie’s brilliance, the team have struggled this season. They also saw injuries to defensive back Marshon Lattimore (ACL tear) and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on Sunday, and have a host of other key players on injured reserve. The Washington squad are 3-6 so far, and it would require a massive reversal for the team to reach the postseason.
