Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located many other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations show the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative stated the incident left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
